After a Bachelor in Biomolecular Sciences and Technologies in Trento and after working in Novartis on a Data Analysis project, I decided to combine my biological background with my passion for computer science by enrolling in the Master in Quantitative and Computational Biology. Here, studying subjects such as Biostatistics and Machine Learning, I discovered a passion for data analysis, data visualization, and predictive model building. After taking part in several Data Science projects related to Biology, one of which is my Master thesis focused on applying novel feature selection methods for the discovery of new antimicrobial targets, I enrolled in the Master in Big Data & Social Analytics to strengthen and expand my knowledge in the world of Big Data and start my career in the field of Data Science.

I'm 26 years old and I graduated in Biology. I did a research thesis in Bioinformatics, in collaboration with the National Istitute of Health, on Malaria. The goal was to find the interactome between Plasmodium and murine erythrocyte: the results were presented at the International Conference of Computational Systems Biology and Bionformatics (December 2019). Through this work, I learned how difficult but interesting it is to analyze data and extrapolate information. For this reason, I would like to engage in Data science and this master offers me the opportunity.

Paola Serrati' was born in 1988 in Lecce. She earned her master’s degree, with honors, in Comparative Modern Culture from the University of Turin. After some experiences in communications, she was the research manager of the "Sciascia and France" project, in association with the Arnoldo and Alberto Mondadori Foundation and Friends of Leonardo Sciascia Association. She’s specialized in creative writing, attending "Laura Lepri Scritture" courses at the Formentini Laboratory, in Milan. She has worked as a teacher of Literature and of the Italian for foreigners at high school and junior high school. She enrolled in Master of Big Data to develop her humanistic education with the skills and the innovative methods of Data Science.

I graduated from Law University. I am passionate about sports, travels and new technologies. I am a consultant in Privacy Law, in particular for enterprises active in the field of organised large-scale distribution, e-commerce and ICT. I decided to enrol for the Master in Big Data Analytics & Social Mining to acquire technical-scientific knowledge for the management and analysis of data, motivated by personal curiosity and desire for professional improvement. Previously, I attended the Google AdWords and Analytics courses and the ICE - Sole 24 Business School course in Export Management and Internationalization of SMEs. I was born in Molfetta (BA) in 1992. I went to the University of Padova where I majored in Philosophical science in 2015 (I also made a research period in Lyon, France) with a B.A. about the poetic metaphor and the scientific model, looking for some kind of connections between the two fields of research. While i was studying the theories about the knowledge possibilities of the human being, I began to analyze the contribution of the information technology in the comprehnesion of reality. I started the master in Big Data and Social Mining here in Pisa to face a new context for me because I think that the analysis of the datas will be soon a fundamental instrument to understand the reality.

Silvia Marrone has a degree in Physics from University of Bari and is an expert in Business Analytics and database. She currently works in Oracle Italia as Senior Sales Consultant (pre-sales consultant) in the Business Analytics business unit and has to support Account Managers in qualifying customer business needs. Previously she was a Senior Consultant in the Advanced Customer Service business unit working at the leading market Telco and Media companies and she also was a Trainer at University business unit delivering courses on Oracle products. Earlier she worked at the universities of Bari, Rome and Trieste in experimental research.

He graduated (cum laude) in Physics at the Universiy of Pisa in 2006, with a thesis on the optical probing of the collective excitations of electrons confined in semiconductor heterostructures. Both during his PhD at Scuola Normale Superiore (2007-2011) and as a post doc at the University of Geneva (2011-2014), he worked in the domains of experimental condensed matter physics and nanoscience. More specifically, his research focused on the electronic properties of semiconductor and graphene nanostructures, and particularly on phenomena related to single-electron transport, the superconducting proximity effect and electronic quantum interference.

I am a PhD student in Political Science at University of Pisa. My research project focuses on identifying new opinion leaders in social media by means of Social Network Analysis. As a hybrid figure halfway between a computer scientist and a political scientist, I’ve often tried to combine computer and social science. Indeed, my degree thesis deals with the frame evolution of a political issue among media (Twitter, television and newspapers) that I analysed quantitatively with R software. As a member of the MediaLab of the Department of Political Science, I analysed a local electoral campaign in social media in collaboration with il Tirreno (local newspaper) and the National Research Council of Pisa (#Toscana15 project). I have focused on Social Network Analysis since I discovered that nodes and edges in a graph could represent human relationships.
